“I am immensely humbled by this wonderful group of personalities … all brave souls, who cared and put their trust in me.”

Greg Gorman, born in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1949, majored in photojournalism at the University of Kansas, before graduating from the University of Southern California with a Master of Fine Arts in Cinematography. Alongside prominent photographers of the “School of Los Angeles”, including Herb Ritts and Matthew Rolston, Gorman continued the tradition of Hollywood photographers like George Hurrell and Robert Coburn.

The list of artists, musicians, actors, directors and athletes photographed by Greg Gorman reads like a “Who’s who?” of the internationally renowned, predominantly western celebrity scene. From Alfred Hitchcock to Al Pacino, Sophia Loren, David Hockney, Marina Abramović, David Bowie, Michael Jordan and Elton John — the crème de la crème of culture and art has posed in front of his camera.

Gorman’s photographs have appeared in various magazines such as Life, Newsweek, Vogue, Rolling Stone, and Andy Warhol’s Interview. His unmistakable play of light and shadow has secured him a reputation as one of America’s greatest photographers and today, he is famous for his beautiful, unforgettable images. The exhibition “It‘s Not About Me” features several of Gorman’s most iconic works.

Accompanying the exhibition is Greg Gorman’s newly published book “It’s Not About Me” (teNeues Media 2020) which is for purchase at the gallery.
